People in Need will join the celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution with the international conference FOR YOUR FREEDOM AND OURS: SUPPORTING DISSIDENTS AND HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVISTS 25 YEARS AND BEYOND. The conference panels will be mostly composed of foreign delegates, activists whose fates aren’t left unnoticed by many democratic countries, including the Czech Republic. The venue itself is also symbolic, as the Charles University was the scene to many a significant event that marked the 1989 Velvet Revolution.

The aim of the conference is to stimulate a debate on dissent, on the history of the promotion of human rights, on the changes in authoritarian regimes and hence in the risks dissidents have to face. The topics will cover the current and past trends of the Czech foreign policy.

The conference is organized as part of the Freedom Festival – www.festivalsvobody.cz
